Carmel Mission Rally in Monterey

Summer Organizers from northern California and community members united on June 24th to tell Carmel Mission Inn management that union busting is disgusting!

In the middle of bargaining for a new labor contract, Carmel Mission’s owners tried to intimidate workers, while demanding contract concessions. UNITE HERE Local 483 has filed Unfair Labor Practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board, including a challenge to Carmel Mission Inn management’s withdrawal of union recognition on January 13, 2011. More than 450 area hotel workers and community supporters sent a clear message to Carmel Mission Inn management: The Monterey Bay Community will not stand for the intimidation of workers!

The rally was empowering because it gave people the opportunity to scream out their frustrations and get the management’s attention! We chanted “no justice, no peace” as we marched through the front of the hotel and demonstrated the power of the people!
